Dubai Traffic Revolution: RTA Award Major Umm Suqeim, Al Wasl, and Al Safa Infrastructure Upgrades
RTA Unveils Massive Infrastructure Overhaul for Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, and Al Wasl Corridors Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially greenlit a multi-billion dirham infrastructure contract to transform the city's most iconic residential and tourism corridors. The project, which spans 11 kilometers of advanced bridges and tunnels, is set to redefine urban mobility for over two million residents across Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Wasl, and Al Safa.

Strategic De-congestion: Slashing Travel Times by 70%
The primary goal of this redevelopment is to accommodate Dubai's rapid population surge. For residents commuting through these districts, the impact will be immediate:
-
Umm Suqeim Street: Travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road will plummet from 20 minutes to just 6 minutes.
-
Al Safa Street: Journey times will drop from 12 minutes to a mere 3 minutes, with road capacity doubling to 12,000 vehicles per hour.
-
Al Wasl Road: Commuters will see a 50% reduction in travel time thanks to a 15km transformation including seven upgraded intersections.
Infrastructure Highlights: A Vision for 2026
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, highlighted that this project is a fundamental pillar of Dubai’s economic growth. The development includes:
-
Umm Suqeim Corridor: Widening to five lanes in each direction with four new bridges and two tunnels. It will serve as a vital link between Jumeirah Street and Emirates Road/Al Qudra Street.
-
Integrated Connectivity: The upgrades will provide seamless access to the "Big Four" highways: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
-
Jumeirah Street Enhancements: Seven key intersections will undergo at-grade improvements to eliminate bottlenecks near popular beaches and tourism hubs.
Boosting Quality of Life & Property Value
Beyond concrete and asphalt, the RTA is focusing on "Urban Greening." The project introduces walkways, cycling tracks, and boulevard plazas. For property owners in Al Wasl and Al Safa, these aesthetic and functional upgrades are expected to drive a significant increase in real estate demand and rental yields.
"Developing vital corridors enhances the efficiency of the traffic network and improves individual productivity," stated Al Tayer. "This reinforces Dubai's global leadership in infrastructure."

Total Scope: 11km of new bridges and tunnels.
