RTA Dubai New Metro Gold Line: Sheikh Mohammed Unveils City's Largest Transport Expansion Dh34 Billion
Dubai, UAE — April 22, 2026: In a landmark move for the emirate's infrastructure, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has officially announced the Dubai Metro Gold Line. Valued at Dh34 billion ($9.2 billion), this "fully underground" masterpiece is the largest single transportation project in the city’s history.

The Gold Line: 42km of Underground Innovation
The new Gold Line is designed to redefine urban mobility. Spanning 42 kilometers and reaching depths of 40 meters, the line will integrate seamlessly with Dubai's existing landscape while providing a 25% boost to the total metro network capacity.
Key Project Highlights:
-
Completion Date: September 9, 2032 (marking the 23rd anniversary of the Dubai Metro).
-
Route Length: 42km of high-tech underground tunneling.
-
Strategic Coverage: Passing through 15 key areas, including Al Ghubaiba, Business Bay, Meydan, and Jumeirah Golf Estates.
-
Capacity: Projected to serve 1.5 million residents and accommodate 465,000 daily passengers by 2040.
Boosting Dubai Real Estate and Connectivity
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the Gold Line is strategically positioned to support the city's booming property market. The route will provide direct connectivity to 55 major real estate developments currently under construction, significantly increasing the valuation of off-plan projects in areas like Meydan and Dubailand.
"Our landmark projects to position Dubai as the world’s best city to live in are on track," Sheikh Mohammed posted on X. "Our future endeavours will not stop; rather, they will accelerate."
A Connected Future: Red, Green, and Gold
The Gold Line will feature three major intersections with the current Red and Green lines, facilitating effortless transfers at Business Bay and Al Ghubaiba. Furthermore, it will link to the Etihad Rail network, bridging the gap between local transit and national rail.
While the current map focuses on the Jumeirah Golf Estates to Bur Dubai corridor, the Gold Line acts as a critical relief valve for the Red Line, easing congestion in the city's busiest residential and commercial districts.
